Civic and Professional Accomplishments

LeRoy G. Gilsdorf is the recipient of the St. Cecilia Outstanding Alumnus
Award. The following are some of his accomplishments. LeRoy was elected
Merced County Auditor-Controller-Recorder in 1975 and setVed for three terms. He
served Merced County for 31 years retiring in 1989 and served in the California
County Auditors Association 26 years and was president in 1980; California County
Recorders Association 13 years and president in 1977; Merco Credit Unions Board
1961-1967, chairman 3 years; Merced County Campfire Board 5 years, two as treasurer.
LeRoy was elected Trustee of Merced County Retirement Association 1962-
1975, secretary for five years. He was District 33 Toastmasters Area Governor Club
President in Merced and earned the DTM award which is the highest award given.
LeRoy was also awarded District 33 Toastmaster of the year in 1987. Upon retirement
he was elected by the retirees as a Trustee to the Merced County Retirement
Association in 1991 and has been chairman from 1997 to present. While serving on
this board, he was elected to the State Association of County Retirement Systems
and served as president from 2000 to 2002. SACRS has control of $71 billion of
county retirement funds. He again was elected to Merco Credit Unions Board in
1991 to present, serving as chairman since 1995. He is currently serving as Treasurer
for the Club Donatello, a timeshare in San Francisco and has been serving on
the Finance Committee since 1991. Mr. Gilsdorfwas a board member for the
Merced Golf and County Club for three years and listed in Who's Who in California
since 1978.

Catholic Church Activity

LeRoy has been a member of the Knights of Columbus for 45 years and has been
Grand Night and District Deputy. He is a member of Our Lady of Mercy Church
Finance Committee for 6 years, school board for 6 years, three as President, Diocese
of Fresno School Board 4 years, two as Vice President, appointed to Diocese of
Fresno Finance committee in 1989 to present and also serves on the Investment
Committee. He has been an usher for over 50 years starting at St. Cecilia's in 1952
and helps with cleaning the Church 6 weeks during the year.
Pope John Paul II bestowed the Benemerenti Medal to him in 1996 for outstanding
service to the Catholic Church.
LeRoy has been married to Joan Hyde from Grand Island NE for 48 years. They
have two daughters Jane Gilsdorf Lopez from Lodi, CA. and Gail Gilsdorf Basham
from Merced, CA and two grand children Sarah Basham and Justin Basham and
three brothers who graduated from St Cecilia's -Gary '53, Dale '57 (deceased) and
Eugene '60.
